The documents have been organised into nine 'focuses', each of
which concentrates on a different aspect of the Eureka story.
Each of these can be viewed by clicking on the Focus links, located
above. These links are viewable at the top of each Focus page and
are a good navigating tool should you 'get lost' in other links.
State of the Goldfields
is a good place to start your exploration of this website.
An alternative place to start exploring is through the various
despatches of Lieutenant Governor Charles Hotham. These provide
not only a good overview of the Eureka story, but also an insight
into the Victorian Government's view of events at Eureka. Hotham's
Narrative can be accessed by clicking on Hotham's portrait at
the top right of the screen (or through the Focus links).
Peter Lalor's Letter provides a
good contrast, for an understanding of the miners' view.
For information about the people involved in the stockade, there
is a Biographies page listing the
major participants. Links to these biographical entries occur in
the text of the focus pages.
At any time, you can click on the words 'EUREKA
ON TRIAL' (located at the top left-hand side of the page), to return
to the Home page.
